Abraham's Promised Son

Genesis 15- 22
A long time ago, there live a man named Abram. He had a wife named Sarai. They were disappointed because they did not have any children. Now they we getting very old and Abraham wondered who would inherit his belongings and his blessings from God. Abram cried out to God: 'O Sovereign Lord, what good are all your blessings when I don't even have a son? Since You have given me no children;... a servant in my household will inherit all my wealth.' And then the Lord said to him, 'No your servant will not be your heir, for you will have a son of your own who will be your heir.
Then the Lord took Abram outside and said to him,

'Look up into the sky, and count the stars if you can.
That is how many descendants you will have.'
 And Abram believed the Lord,
and the Lord counted him as righteous because of his faith."

Evil Multiplied

Summary of how evil multiplied shown in Genesis chapters 4- 12: 1-3... 2 Chronicles 16:9, Hebrews 11: 8-10

When Adam and Eve made the decision to eat the fruit; they chose to disobey God. Once they ate the fruit, evil entered into their hearts and marred the goodness God created them to have, when He made them in His Own image. And when they had their first two sons evil was passed along to them as well, in the attitudes of their hearts. Every human being has a choice... will I trust and follow God or do things my own way?
Along with evil came great tragedy and sorrow. Adam and Eve's son Cain killed his brother, their son Abel. Cain was then banished and Adam and Eve were left with no sons. Imagine their grief. They had no idea what the consequences of  accepting good and evil would have on their life. We choose between good and evil, but we can not choose the consequences.

However, God in His mercy allowed them to have another son; Seth. When Seth had his son Enosh, it says that "..men began to call on the name of the Lord." Genesis 4:26 NKJ

Even though Adam and Eve and their descendants could not live forever, they did live for a long time... up to 969 years... Certainly enough time to get into a lot of trouble. The spread of evil continued and the result is the darkness that Isaiah was talking about from our first Advent post A Great Light will Shine.  But, God was always searching the hearts of the people he created, hoping to find a person whose heart was loyal to Him, who wanted to walk with Him. Man's Fall

Genesis 2,3 NLT

After God created man and woman; He placed them in the Garden of Eden and God warned them:

"You may freely eat the fruit of every tree in the garden - except the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. It you eat its fruit, you are sure to die.'" 2:7,8, 15-17

"Now the man and his wife were both naked, but they felt no shame." vs 25  The man and his wife lived a perfect life of beauty and no shame in the garden. They could eat fruit from every tree, except one.

Now here comes trouble:

God Created

Today's Reading: Genesis 1

The story of the coming of Christ is written in the Bible from the very beginning, from the first page to last. There are many places that speak of Jesus being right with God in the very beginning. Look at what Jesus' friend John says. He calls Jesus the Word and says,

"In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God and the Word was God.
He was in the beginning with God.
All things were made through Him and without Him nothing was made that was made."
John 1:1-3 NKJ

So now beginning in Genesis we read:

 "In the beginning God created
the heavens and the earth.
The earth was formless and empty,
and darkness covered the deep waters.
And the Spirit of God
was hovering over
the surface of the waters.
Then God said 'Let there be light,'
and there was light.
And God saw that the light was good.
Then he separated the light
from the darkness.
God called the light 'day' and the darkness 'night'.
  Verses 1-3 NLT

God created the sky, all of space and the earth. He spoke light into existance, plants, the sun, the moon and the stars. And He said that everything was good. In your mind, think about how beautiful is God's creation... the wonder of the universe, a star-lit sky, a full moon casting shadows across your lawn in the middle of the night, the rain pouring down on your roof, a glorious sunrise or sunset. Does this tell us what God is like? Read More:

A Great Light will Shine

Reading: Isaiah 9:2-6

Already people have been scurrying about at the malls shopping for the big day... CHRISTMAS! Thoughts whirling through our minds of Christmas music, yummy food, a Christmas tree, lights, families gathering together to celebrate the big event... the coming of Santa Claus. What? The Coming of Santa Claus? Is Santa what Christmas is all about? Some people don't realize that before  Christmas was celebrated with Santa, that people celebrated Christmas, honoring Jesus Christ by celebrating Advent: which means the coming or the arrival of Jesus.

What is Advent? Advent is a 4 week season just before Christmas to prepare our hearts for the Coming of Christ. Followers of Jesus from all over the world have celebrated Advent for hundreds of years. During Advent we celebrate His first coming as a baby long ago. I love the story of the Coming of Christ as it is written in the Bible through the ages, from beginning to the end. It is my hope to share this joy from the best of my understanding, as an act of worship to Him. It is in His Story that we find the true meaning of Christmas, The Promise of the King.

Tonight is the first Sunday, the first day of the first week of Advent. Many people celebrate Advent by lighting Advent Candles, one for each week of Advent.  For more info on the candles, the advent wreath and other resources see the side bar and pages. Continue by clicking the read more.

Tomorrow Advent Begins

Tomorrow is the first day of Advent.

We will put up an Advent reading every day for you to drop by and enjoy. If you have time, a comment will be welcomed. This Advent Blog is for kids and families to give idea's and devotions to share times together and start a new tradition to bring meaning into their Christmas Season. Enjoy this Season with your Lord and with your family. It is a perfect way to introduce and teach your children the gospel of Christ.

Tomorrow is the first day of Advent when you light the first candle.

"The first candle is traditionally the candle of Expectation or Hope (in some traditions, Prophecy). This draws attention to the anticipation of the coming of an Anointed One, a Messiah that weaves its way like a golden thread through Old Testament history. As God’s people were abused by power hungry kings, led astray by self-centered prophets, and lulled into apathy by half-hearted religious leaders, there arose a longing for God to raise up a new king who could show them how to be God’s people. They yearned for a return of God’s dynamic presence in their midst."

This week we will look at the Old Testament, beginning in Genesis. We will see Christ in creation, the creation of people and then evil and why it was necessary for Jesus to come.

Blessings ~ Sheri

Also we have another blog that will put up more in depth daily Advent readings that adults may enjoy called Journey with Jesus

Brand New: We have a website called Tell His Story
Why would I put up a website, when I already have several blogs? This site has the same content but is arranged in a page format with daily readings arranged week by week. Check it out to see if it is easier for you to follow. I would love you comments.

PS. Do you have your candles yet? I am going out today to buy some, put them in candle holders and arrange them around a simple Christmas wreath. I use red for the first four around the wreath and white in the center for the arrival of the Christ Child. But other traditions use other colors.

Behold Your King!

Today is Christ is King day, according to many church calendars. It is the last Sunday before Advent (Coming of Christ) starts to bring in the Christmas season. All of this week you can read posts that honor Jesus as Christ the King on our other blog Journey with Jesus. Or if you like a website format better go to Tell His Story.

James Tissot Brooklyn Museum
Today's readings of Christ the King are: Matthew 21:5, Zechariah 9:9,

"Tell the daughter of Zion,
'Behold, your King is coming to you,
Lowly, and sitting on a donkey...'"
Matt. 21:5 NKJ

When Jesus entered Jerusalem on Palm Sunday on a donkey the crowds were cheering and many wondering if this was the coming of God's chosen one. He fulfilled this prophecy of the coming Messiah:

"Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion!
Shout, O daughter of Jerusalem!
Behold, Your King is coming to you;
He is just and having salvation,
Lowly and riding on a donkey..."
Zechariah 9:9 NKJ

It was such a time of great rejoicing! God's chosen one finally came in to the city of David, the city of the Great king. Look at Him in your heart, through the eyes of these people; He was righteous, and just. In their eyes He was coming to make things right and end the injustice they lived under with the occupation of Rome. But that is not how it was to be. More on that later. For now, just think, God's chosen One did not come high and mighty a a majestic horse, but He came in humility on a little donkey, lowly and approachable to us. Let His words speak to your heart:

"Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened,
and I will give you rest...
for I am gentle and lowly in heart and you will find rest for your souls."
Matthew 11:28, 29 NIV/KJV

Are you weary and burdened? Come to Him. Come to His gentle and lowly heart. Rest your  heart in His. You will find rest for your soul.

Behold, Your King is coming to you!
